He has been involved in part and full-time vocational ministry for over 20 years serving in many ministry areas including youth, worship, and solo pastoring. Pastor Andy graduated from Taylor University (Upland, IN) and later attended Covenant Theological Seminary (St. Louis, MO) where he earned his Master of Divinity. Ordained as a Teaching Elder (Pastor) in the PCA in 2003, Pastor Andy has served churches in Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee. He was installed as the pastor of Walnut Hill in 2013.

What is your goal in ministry?

“Primarily through preaching and pastoral care, I seek to help people know the Good News of Jesus Christ and to see the implications of the Gospel applied to everyday life. In short, I want everyone to know that in Jesus Christ, we have hope, eternal confident assurance, that enables us to love God with all of who we are and our neighbors as ourselves.”

What is one of your favorite passages of Scripture?

“Galatians 4:4-7 captures the heart of the Gospel: ‘But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.’ “

Who are some of your influences?

“It is difficult to narrow down those I see as influences. There have been many men and women along the way that have shaped my life. My parents, various professors in college and seminary, gifted teachers, and those who have no title but have shared life with me encouraging me to look to Jesus. When studying, I will often look to see if D. A. Carson, J.C. Ryle, or John Stott, have a book about the passage being studied. When it comes to preaching, Tim Keller has had the most influence and this is not because I want to emulate his style but because of what I hear in his sermons. I began listening to Keller’s sermons when I went through a particularly dark period in life. Every sermon pointed to my hope being in Jesus Christ. Keller was an incredibly intelligent man and could have preached in a way that only intellectuals would appreciate, but he did not. Instead, he preached as one who may be sitting across the table from you as he explained the implications of the passage he was preaching. This is the kind of preaching the resonates in my soul: a way to communicate God’s Word so that whoever may be listening can understand and be blessed.”

If you do not find Andy preparing for sermons or practicing music, you will likely find him exercising, spending time with his kids, working on things around the house or on the cars, or maybe watching Pittsburgh Penguins games on television.
